Elevator standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50

Elevator standards EN 81-20 and EN 81-50

The EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 European standards for elevator design and manufacture bring considerable benefits in terms of accessibility and safety for both passengers and service technicians. 2014 sets out revised and updated safety requirements for the construction and installation of elevators, while EN 81-50:2014, defines the test and examination requirements for certain elevator components. EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 replaced the EN 81-1 and EN 81-2 standards introduced in 1998, and all elevators taken into use after 31 August 2017 are required to comply. This page gives an overview of the main changes to the safety requirements introduced in EN 81-20 and EN 81-50. For full details, customers should refer to the official standards documents.
