Egypt's exports of food products grow by 31% in Q1 of 2024

Chairman of the Food Export Council (FEC) Hany Barzi told press Tuesday that Egypt's exports of food products recorded $1.6 billion in the first quarter of 2024 growing by 31 percent compared to the same period last year.   Fifty-five percent of those were imported by Arab countries in a value of $859 million. Then comes the European Union (EU) with $331 million (21 percent), followed by non-Arab African countries with $111 million (seven percent), while the fourth place goes to the United States with $67 million (four percent).   Egypt's agriculture exports achieved an increase of $239.2 million during the period from January to October 2023, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).   During the first 10 months of 2023, the total Egyptian agricultural exports reached $3.5 billion, compared to $2.8 billion during the same period in 2022.   According to CAPMAS, mango emerged as the leading export with a total of $96.8 million in sales between January and October 2023, surpassing the previous year's figures of $69.8 million during the same period in 2022.   Followed by bean exports, reaching approximately $56.8 million in 2023, compared to the $13.5 million in 2022.   Earlier in January, CAPMAS also reported that the value of the trade deficit decreased by 16.6 percent in October 2023, to reach $3.15 billion, compared to $3.78 billion in October 2022.             Egypt Today
