The Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities released a press statement Sunday revealing that it had been in talks with Schneider Electric to construct 1,000 smart houses in New Alamein which is a fourth-generation city already having the necessary infrastructure.   New Alamein spans over a surface area of 48,917 feddans. Its utilities comprise a water desalination plant, a three-phase water treatment plant, electrical transformers, a compressed natural gas (CNG) plant, wastewater pumping station, and utility networks.   As for its neighborhoods, there are the Downtown blocks, beach towers, El Alamein Marina Towers, Downtown towers, a compound built over 700 feddans, the Latin District, Sakan Misr and special housing units.   The services available are entertainment area, Alamein International University (AIU), a maritime academy, a city of arts, an elementary school, and a tourist walkway.   Twenty-five percent of the city's surface area will be an industrial zone located in the southern section in the desert. The activities there are expected to be relevant to agribusiness, as the site is very close to the New Delta, which is a project targeted at reclaiming 2.2 million feddans.           Egypt Today
