Antonio Guterres thanks Egypt for keeping Rafah Border Crossing with Gaza open

President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi received Sunday United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazarini to discuss the Gaza War.

President Sisi displayed the intensive efforts deployed by Egypt to attain a ceasefire and a hostage-exchange deal as well as deliver aid using both urban routes and airdropping.

The Egyptian chief of state commended the stances of the United Nations secretary general on the crisis, his eagerness for abiding by international law, and endeavors to push the international community to take steps to end the war and protect civilians.

President Sisi warned of the decision made by a number of countries to cut funding to the UNRWA as it entails collective punishment to Palestinians.

On his side, Guterres lauded Egypt for keeping Rafah Border Crossing, reiterating the salience of a humanitarian ceasefire. There was also congruence among both parties on the necessity of the two-state solution to ensure long-term regional security and stability.
