The Nile Company for Oil & Detergents (NOD): A Legacy of Excellence
Early Beginnings (1946-1949)
The Nile Company for Oil & Detergents (NOD) began its journey in 1946 as “The English Company for Soap and Global Products.” With an initial capital of 208,000 Egyptian pounds, the company focused on commercial activities. In 1949, it took a significant step by establishing its first factory in Rod El-Farag, paving the way for local manufacturing.
Growth and Transformation (1952-1966)
In 1952, the company rebranded as “The Global Products Company.” By 1962, it built a cutting-edge industrial detergents factory in Bahtim, Qalyubia, producing “Omo” under license from Unilever. After the nationalization process in 1966, it merged with several regional factories and became known as “The Nile Company for Oil and Soap.”
Expanding Production Capabilities (1983-1988)
To meet growing demand, a new detergents factory was launched in 1983 with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. This period also saw the debut of the popular detergent “Safo.” In 1988, the company adopted its current name, “The Nile Company for Oil & Detergents,” reflecting its broader focus and capabilities.
