Egyptian Cabinet reshuffle: Who is the new Minister of Electricity?

Government sources revealed the nomination of Dr. Mahmoud Esmat as the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the new government. 

Esmat is scheduled to be sworn in along with the other ministers on Wednesday.

The new Minister of Electricity is Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Kamal Esmat. 

He has served as Minister of Public Business Sector since August 2022.

He was born in Cairo Governorate in 1954. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from Cairo University, and a doctorate in engineering from Dehaus University in Canada.

Esmat began his life as a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering, then moved to work as an engineer at the Suez Canal Authority and the Shipbuilding Company in Ismailia and Port Said.

He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cairo Air Port Company from 2013 to 2014, and Chairman of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation from 2014 to 2016.

In addition to assuming the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cairo Glass Manufacturing since 2016, Esmat is one of the businessmen specialized in the field of glass manufacturing in the 10th of Ramadan Industrial Zone.

When he was president of Cairo Airport, airports witnessed great development during his reign, including the construction of Terminal 2 with a capacity of 7 million passengers, the development and increase of the capacity of Borg El Arab Airport, Hurghada Airport, and Sharm El Sheikh, planning to establish Airport City, and the development of radars and air navigation systems.
