Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir met Tuesday with the Italian ambassador to Egypt to discuss updates on the prospective RoRo freight to be launched between the ports of Damietta and Trieste, and the date of the start of operation.
The target is enhancing the circulation of Egyptian exports of fresh vegetables and fruits, as the Italian port will also serve as a gateway to other European markets.
The current Egyptian-Italian cooperation in the sector of transport includes the management and operation of the container terminal dubbed Tahya Misr 1 at Damietta Port by the coalition comprising Eurogate, Contship, and Hapag-Lloyd.
That is in addition to the collaboration with Almaviva to create a unified cross-platform transport card, and the contract between the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) and Mermec to supply track inspection vehicles and systems.
